Your Limerick GP’s at Roxboro Medical Centre will be providing the Covid 19 vaccines despite recent changes by the HSE to the previous plan.
The national immunisation advisory committee (NIAC) has recommended that people aged 70 and over should only receive mRNA vaccines – such as the Pfizer/BioNtech or Moderna vaccines. This has led to some logistical difficulties with the vaccine roll out as these can be difficult to store, transport and prepare. As a result, not all general practitioners will be able to provide this service to their patients.
Here at Roxboro Medical Centre your Limerick GP’s and Practice nurses will be providing the covid 19 vaccine for our patients. As per HSE guidelines the first patients to receive the vaccine will be those over 85, followed by people 80-85, then 75-80 and then 70-75.
General Practitioners and the HSE have been working through these difficulties to get these vaccines out to our patients as swiftly as possible. The delivery of these vaccines to GP’s all over the country is to be rolled out over the next two weeks.
We expect to take delivery of the Pfizer/BioNtech this Wednesday the 24th of feb and start vaccinating the next day.
Having spent the last number of weeks identifying all our patients in the above age cohorts, we now have lists of people who we will be contacting to attend for a vaccine appointment.
We have been told that the vaccine we will be receiving is the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine. We advise all our patients to familiarise themselves with this vaccine. The following is a link from the HSE that gives information regarding this vaccine.

Dr. O’Donoghue has a keen interest in Sports Medicine and has completed a Masters Degree in Sports and exercise medicine from University College Cork achieving an honours degree. He has also done additional training in Neurofunctional Acupuncture from McMaster University in Hamilton Canada. He has completed the FIFA Football Medicine Diploma and is a trained provider of the EMS Swiss Dolorclast method for ESWT (extracorporeal shockwave therapy).
