1. King Johns’ Castle

King John’s Castle is a castle visit like no other in Ireland. Located in Limerick’s medieval main city, King John’s Castle offers an interactive experience full of courtyard games, re-enactments, and abseiling!

2. Treaty City Brewery

Did you know that Limerick has a history of brewing that dates back to the 1700s? Learn more about this while enjoying a tour of an artisan craft brewery at Treaty City Brewery, Limerick. Treaty brewery is located in a historical building that dates back 250 years.

You will see the working brewery in action on this tour as the local tipple is brewed before you. You’ll also hear from the Master Brewer, who will explain how the craft beer is made and what ingredients they use. 3. Ballyhoura Country

Ballyhoura Country is an area named after the Ballyhoura Mountains and encompasses parts of Limerick, Cork and Tipperary. This is an area of outstanding beauty, not to mention endless activities for all the family. Hop on your bike and explore the off-road bike trails through Ballyhoura’s woodlands and hills. After that, immerse yourself in the ancient history of Ireland, brought to life at the Lough Gur heritage centre.

4. Limerick Greenway

Limerick is home to one of Ireland’s reclaimed greenways, dedicated routes for cyclists and pedestrians to enjoy at their leisure. The Limerick Greenway is 40km long and connects the three market towns of Rathkeale, Newcastlewest and Abbeyfeale in West Limerick. Enjoy town loops of between 3km and 4.5km or choose from a selection of routes that take in Norman castles, viaducts, tunnels, medieval ruins and more! 5. Adare Village

While in Limerick, take a trip to one of Ireland’s prettiest villages. Adare boasts some of the county’s most picturesque streets and scenes, including thatched cottages and its very own manor. 7. Swim at Glin Pier

Open water swimming has become hugely popular in Ireland during the lockdown. With scenic swim sites like Glin Pier on the River Shannon, it’s no surprise so many people are taking a dip. The water at Glin Pier is tidal, and it’s a popular training spot for triathlon athletes. Swing by Glin Pier for a refreshing river swim or enjoy lunch looking out over the breathtaking scenes.

8. Curragh Chase Forest park

Just 18km from Limerick city, Curragh Chase has an impressive 300 hectares of parkland land, woodland, lakes and trails. It is the ideal location for visitors to Limerick who love a long walk in beautiful surroundings. Packed full of fascinating wildlife life and native tree specimens, Curragh Chase is the perfect place for unwinding and enjoying Ireland’s diverse flora and fauna.

9. Mungret Farmer’s Fair

One for the foodies! In a small village called Mungret, just outside Limerick, local suppliers and food artisans get together every week to sell their wares. Here you can try delicious foods and treats, all made and grown within a few miles radius. From cream cakes and handpicked berries to frozen yoghurt and sizzling hotdogs – you will be spoilt for choice. Mungret Farmers Fair is held every Sunday.

If you are out and about in Limerick county, look out for the On The Hoof Coffee Shop too. This converted horsebox serves barista coffees, teas, hot chocolate & home-baked treats.

10. Foynes Flying Boat Museum

Keeping the history of aviation and passenger travel across the North Atlantic alive, the Foynes museum is a gem. Officially opened by Maureen O’Hara in 1989, Foynes’ is packed full of relics and stories of the River Shannon’s maritime history, aviation and the invention of Irish Coffee.
