Roxboro Medical Centre is a full-service healthcare provider run by an experienced team of nurses and doctors in Limerick.

Doctor Lucey, Doctor O’Donoghue and nurses Cathriona Conlon and Patricia Collins have decades of health care experience. Together, they provide patients with a comprehensive range of services, including family medicine, women’s health, men’s health and sports medicine.

Roxboro Medical Centre boasts two of the most sought after doctors in Limerick for sports medicine expertise. Dr Lucey and Dr O’Donoghue both have a Masters in Sport & Exercise Medicine and many years of hands-on experience. They have worked with the FAI, Limerick Senior, U21 and Minor Football teams, Limerick Minor Hurling team and Limerick FC.

The two doctors in Limerick city’s Roxboro Medical Centre are committed to the broader community’s health. Together with the Roxboro medical team, they care for patients with health concerns including asthma, coronary heart disease, diabetes and more. With Registered Midwife Nurse Conlon on hand, Roxboro is the ideal medical Centre for expectant mums and families.

Our Team

  • Dr Rory O Donoghue

    Dr. Rory O’Donoghue

    Doctor

    Dr O’Donoghue is originally from Limerick and went to school at the Salesians College in Pallaskenry.

    He went to medical school in University College Cork and graduated with an Honours Degree in 2005.  After his internship in University Hospital Limerick and Cork University Hospital, he went on to complete his specialist General Practitioner Training on the Cork GP Training Scheme from 2006 -2010.  He moved to Canada in 2011 and was working as a General Practitioner in Toronto and Ottawa until 2014.  During this period he worked in Athletes Care Toronto as a Sports Physician.

    Having returned to Limerick in 2014 he has worked with the FAI (Football Association of Ireland) from 2014 to 2019 as the Team Doctor to the Irish U17 Men’s soccer team.  During this time he was lucky enough to qualify for 4 UEFA U17 European championships.

    In 2018 he went into Partnership with DR Lucey to form Roxboro Medical Centre.

    Dr. O’Donoghue has a keen interest in Sports Medicine and has completed a Masters Degree in Sports and exercise medicine from University College Cork achieving an honours degree.   He has also done additional training in Neurofunctional Acupuncture from McMaster University in Hamilton Canada.  He has completed the FIFA Football Medicine Diploma and is a trained provider of the EMS Swiss Dolorclast method for ESWT (extracorporeal shockwave therapy).

  • Dr Stephen Lucey

    Dr. Lucey hails from Croom in Co. Limerick. He was educated in Croom National School, Cistercian College Roscrea, and Limerick Tutorial Centre before going on to complete his medical degree in University College Dublin graduating in 2004 with an honours degree.

    He completed his internship in St. Vincent’s Hospital Dublin and University Hospital Limerick. He trained as a GP on the Mid West Specialist GP Training Scheme from 2005-2009, and completed a Diploma in Child Health in 2006 as well as a Certificate in Family Planning in 2007. He worked as a GP locum and also in the AMAU in University Hospital Limerick before joining the practice in Roxboro with Dr. Harry Comber at the start of 2011.  On the retirement of Dr. Comber in 2018, Dr. Lucey and Dr. O’Donoghue went into partnership creating Roxboro Medical Centre.

    Dr. Lucey is a very keen sportsperson having played both Hurling and Gaelic Football with his native club Croom as well as representing Limerick from the age of 16 in 1996 up to his retirement in 2015. He represented Limerick at Senior level for 17 years with 67 championship appearances, over 30 in each code.

    Following on from his interest in sport, Dr. Lucey completed a Masters in Sport & Exercise Medicine from University College Cork graduating in 2009. He is a certified provider of the EMS Swiss Dolorclast method for ESWT (extracorporeal shockwave therapy).

    Dr Lucey has worked as doctor for the Limerick Senior, U21 and Minor Football teams, as well as the Limerick Minor Hurling team. He has also worked as doctor for Limerick FC for a number of years.

  • Cathriona Conlon

    Nurse

    Cathriona grew up in Tipperary, and moved to Limerick to start her training as a nurse, qualifying as a Registered General Nurse in 1987 and then qualifying as a Registered Midwife in 1990. She has worked as a General Practice nurse since 1997. Cathriona has continued to work on her professional portfolio during her career, as she feels we owe it to our patients to be well-informed regarding best practice and competency. She has completed 3 Diplomas in Asthma, Cardiac and Diabetes Care as well as a Certificate in Family Planning/Well Woman Care and a course in Clinical Excellence in Ear Care. She is also a certified Smear taker with Cervical Check.

  • Patricia Collins

    Nurse

    Patricia was educated in St Mary’s Secondary School Nenagh. She then moved to Dublin where she completed her General Nursing in the Mater Hospital. Having found an interest in General Practice, she completed a Higher Diploma in Practice Nursing from the Royal College of Surgeons. She then moved back to Limerick in 1998 and has been working in General Practice since. She joined Roxboro Medical Centre in 2016. Patricia has engaged in several educational programs to keep her nursing skills updated. These include a Diploma in Asthma Care & Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease, Certificates in Family Planning, Diabetes Care and Cervical Smear taking.
